Important Addition to U.S. Portion of Sudan Team

The Lord continues to open doors and raise up great people to assist in spreading the Gospel in Sudan. Mike Roman, an elder in the Norfolk,Virginia church of Christ, has generously agreed to oversee the construction of the campus for the preacher training school.

Mike is involved in real estate development in Virginia and is able to donate his time to travel to Sudan and take charge of this very important part of The Sudan Project. Mike says, "I have dreamed of doing something like this for 40 years and am very excited about getting started."
The donation of a site has been accepted in the village of Parajok in South Sudan.
The advantages of this area were described in detail in our last newsletter.
The funds to build the campus have been collected, and the need to begin is urgent. Construction of buildings there is complicated, however, because about half of the year falls in the rainy season and the roads become impassable.
Complications regarding travel there to oversee new construction, finding qualified local workers and supplies, and communicating from the U. S. to primitive areas can really stifle our American impatience to make quick construction progress!

The 20-year civil war in Southern Sudan left the country with virtually none of the basic services such as electricity, telephones, schools, postal services and security that nearly all other countries have, which also impedes progress. The few major roads left are rough gravel. Those through the countryside are mostly deep ruts,as you can imagine from a 20-year lack of maintenance and a six-month annual rainy season. But the people are hungry for the Gospel and we must find a way to get it to them.

NEEDED: ANOTHER GOOD MAN!

To adequately coordinate support from the U.S. all the way to its implementation in South Sudan is a far greater job than one person can do alone. In addition to the tremendous help Mike Roman will be to The Sudan Project educational work of the preacher training school.
Don Humphrey, who currently serves as project director, will eventually need to retire. A passionate, mission-minded, spiritual man with good biblical knowledge, organizational
and communication skills is being sought to step into his shoes.

This man would still live and preach, teach, etc. in the United States butwould also work with Sunset International School of Biblical Studies' curriculum to oversee the training of the new Sudanese preachers, visiting Sudan perhaps twice a year. If you might be qualified and interested or know someone who could be, please contact Don Humphrey don.humphrey@comcast.net
